It is morning. The beast sparks fear in the assembly. Things start to break up here. Piggy is outraged that the beast is still true to the littluns. Jack decides to break off and start his own tribe and gradually steals lots of members, especially the littluns.
Some people are happy to see Jack go, some are not. Piggy convinces Ralph to move the signal fire to the beach to make it easier to attend to.
Meanwhile, Jack and his newly formed tribe find a group of sleeping pigs and a sow. They decide to hunt. The pigs wake up and scatter. Jack and his hunters chase after the largest sow into an open clearing, where she runs out of breath and collapses. The hunters jump on the sow, brutalize her, cut her throat and spill her blood. As a sacrifice to the beast, Jack impales the head on a stick.
Simon finds the head, and has a conversation with the Lord of the Flies. The Lord of the Flies warns Simon about what will happen in the future, though it is his imagination. Simon faints and somehow goes inside the mouth of the Lord of the Flies.
